Garden Waste Update
NSC have provided this information. Posted 13/03/2021
So far 18,000 households have signed-up, but it has not been an easy process for everyone and we wanted to let you know what we’re doing to fix that.
Firstly, we are incredibly sorry that the process has not been as smooth as we’d have liked. The online sign-up form had some teething problems and the overwhelming numbers of phone calls have led to unacceptably long waiting times for many residents.
We have been working hard behind the scenes to fix these issues and have put in place a number of things which we hope will help:
- We’ve extended the early bird discount of 10% off the annual collection cost for one bin until Friday 16 April.
- We’ve made changes to the garden waste online process to make it easier to sign-up. You don’t need to enter a password and if you’re entitled to any extra discounts because of the amount of council tax you pay these will be calculated automatically. Sign-up at www.n-somerset.gov.uk/gardenwaste
- We’ll carry on collecting garden waste as normal from all households at the beginning of April in case people who’ve registered haven’t had their permits by then.
It’s also worth noting that anyone who is signing-up for a relative, neighbour or friend should do this as a separate transaction so that any discounts they are entitled to are automatically applied.
If someone can’t sign-up online and would prefer to call, please ring 01934 888 802. However, the phone lines are extremely busy due to the exceptionally high volumes of calls we’re receiving, so they may prefer to wait until later in the month now that we have extended the discounted period.
We will start sending out permits next week to everyone who has already signed-up and we will also be sending a reminder letter to everyone who already receives garden waste collections to let them know they have until Friday 16 April to sign-up at the discounted rate.
(Steve’s note; If you do sign up, look out for a letter to arrive from NSC with your bin sticker in it. This sticker has to be stuck to the bib lid and it has been suggested that you write you house name/number on the sticker as well.
In my copy of the letter, it says that garden waste will now be collected on the ALTERNATE week to the black wheelie bins – THIS IS NOT TRUE. The green and the black bins will be collected on the same week – see the new calendars on the separate post)
We’re pleased to report that the offer of a £10 discounted composted bin is being well-received by residents. Over 1,000 compost bins have been ordered so far by and both the online home composting courses are fully booked. Three additional dates have been added:
o Wednesday 7 April 1.30-2.30pm
o Thursday 8 April 8-9pm
o Monday 12 April 1-2pm
